This blog is about part 1 of my 20,000+ mile car-camping trip with my dogs from DC to Alaska via Labrador. Part 1, in 2011, was to the end of the road in northeastern North America in Labrador and then on to Quebec and Ontario, 7609 miles. Part 2, which took place in 2012, picked up where Part 1 left off in Ontario and was supposed to extend to Banff and Jasper National Parks in the Canadian Rockies, but Leben, my male German shepherd, became paralyzed on the trip so we cut it short. We will finish the journey in 2013, when we will return to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

August 17 - Status

I just got the word that they tracked down the source of the very elusive problem with my Defender. Their computer showed that all the parts were functioning, and so they simulated the various electrical connections. Apparently, the problem was with the electrical connections, gauge and sensor. It is not clear when they will have the parts to finish the work, but if it is tomorrow or Friday, I will set out again on Friday or Saturday for my truncated journey. (See below posting.)

This problem happening was actually quite fortunate in a number of ways. The most significant one was that on Monday I discovered that Leben had developed a serious skin infection that I missed before, so I was able to get this treated last evening. Although I would have dealt with it on the road, the poor guy would have been suffering from it until I was able to, at least a week from today.

More to come tomorrow. A new surprise every day, it seems.
