As many know, my dog Sonntag was the inspiration for my road trips to Alaska, although Montag (my first dog) and Kessie (my second dog with Sonntag, his sister) could easily have been, too. (Leben and Erde just get to go along for the ride.) Just before I left for the as-of-now-abbreviated trip this year, I was contacted by Jayne Olderman, a singer songwriter from Atlanta, who wrote me that she was so inspired by the extraordinary photos of Sonntag by photographer Richard Olsenius that she wrote a song about loss, grieving and letting go. The song is so extraordinary itself that I thought I would share it here with you, completing the circle of connections. I will add it to the right-hand banner, too. Of course, the loss of any of my dogs would have inspired the song too, as I am sure many of you will feel about the loss of someone close to you, pet or person.
Click here for the YouTube video of the song (the vocalist is Dianne Durrett, Jayne's songwriting partner).
The blog is about part 1 (of three) of my 20,000+ mile, car-camping trip with my dogs from DC to Alaska via Labrador.
